The Manufacturing Institute is the workforce and education partner of the National Association of Manufacturers. It is dedicated to supporting the manufacturing workforce of today and growing the manufacturing workforce of tomorrow. It does so through a variety of programs designed to excite, educate, and empower with a particular focus in four key areas: women, veterans, youth, and lifelong learning.

Manufacturing Institute Programs
Diversity & Inclusion - The MI leads the manufacturing industry in actions to foster and promote an inclusive culture in manufacturing, supporting manufacturers with their D&I efforts and amplifying best practices to spread nationally


MI Advocacy - The Institute leads the workforce and education policy for the NAM community to encourage programs that will align manufacturers’ needs with workforce training and educational priorities and goals.

Second Chance Hiring - The Second Chance initiative addresses barriers to employment and lack of opportunities for people with criminal records by helping manufacturers navigate second chance hiring.

Youth Programs - The MI is working to raise awareness, change perceptions about manufacturing, and help students translate STEM skills learned in a classroom into fulfilling career opportunities in a growing industry.


FAME - The Federation for Advance Manufacturing Education (FAME) is an employer collaborative apprenticeship program to develop global-best, entry-level, multi-skilled maintenance technicians, with more than 30 locations, and over 250 companies sponsoring 750 students, with some of the best outcomes of any manufacturing education program in the country.



Research - The Center for Manufacturing Research closely examines issues of importance to manufacturers – both to help understand them and illuminate what needs to be done to solve them.

Veterans - Heroes MAKE America is our initiative to facilitate connections between the military and manufacturing. Our signature program provides transitioning Service members, veterans and military spouses with the skills and certifications to find and excel in careers in manufacturing.
